Grim grinning ghosts (and villains, too) came out to socialize for the 2015 Disney Internships and Programs Winter Formal: A Haunted Soireé! Final arrangements were made to carry our spirited participants over to the realm of the supernatural for a midnight spree at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in the Vera Cruz Exhibit Hall.
Both dashing and elegant, participants dressed in their finest semi-formal attire and received glow sticks upon entry. Eerily elaborate décor turned the hall into a ghostly retreat with pipe organs, shadows, tombstones, crypts, portrait galleries, cobwebs, ghost horse and doom buggy, spooky trees, dusty libraries, full moons and more.
Ghoulish delights were prepared, including the famous chocolate chip bread pudding served every year, at a full dinner buffet and nacho bar. Our spirits were not frightfully sensitive to bright lights so there were plenty of photo-ops with Mickey, Minnie, Cruella De Vill, The Evil Queen, Oogie Boogie, Jack Skellington, Anastasia, Drizella and Lady Tremaine. Photo booths were set up for everyone’s own spooky snaps and selfies.
In the dead center of the hall, there was a 360-degree dance floor; participants danced to music from regions beyond while two DJs turned the spirit’s sympathetic vibrations into a swinging wake. Even Mickey and Minnie got down with a few of their own dance moves.
For many, including myself, this night will be a great memory for years to come…or rather a spooktacular ghost story. All 999 ghosts enjoyed the participants in attendance and have already begun to vocalize for everyone to “hurry back, hurry back” for next year’s winter formal!
