We’ve all read these articles before…that say things like, “Walk for 30 minutes per day to improve your health.” Truth be told, when you’re a college student on an internship, 30 minutes is a lot to ask. With the weather changing to a Florida fall and all the tourists that come to visit, it’s important to practice good health.
Here are just a few simple and inexpensive things you can do to improve your state of mind and physical health as you finish out your internship.
Have you seen all the articles lately that tout drinking hot water and honey? Even Ariel needs to make sure she keeps her throat in tip-top shape! There is some scientific data that suggests that lemon and water help you stay hydrated and fight infection (Vitamin C). Instead of drinking every caffeinated beverage you can find, try hot water with lemon and honey. You can even add a few lemon slices to your water bottle. It’s surprisingly refreshing, and can help with alertness too. Squeeze about a tablespoon of lemon juice into a mug, add between a teaspoon and a tablespoon of honey, add hot water, and drink!
Get a good night sleep
Go ahead and snooze! You never heard of Princess Aurora pulling an all-nighter and neither should you. Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your weight, mind and more. Sleep makes you feel better, but its importance goes way beyond just boosting your mood or banishing under-eye circles. Your brain does a kind of ‘restart’ when you sleep, helping to process and integrate the information you learned before going to bed. This is especially true if you sleep at least six-seven hours per night.
Don’t forget to eat your Superfoods
Cinderella has her pumpkins, and you have your superfoods! Superfoods build bones, assist with weight loss, keep your mind sharp and can even prevent chronic disease. Some great superfoods are oats, black beans, avocados, blueberries, grapefruit, almonds, green tea and dark chocolate. Who doesn’t love chocolate!
