The first few days of 2014 have been eventful, here on the East Coast. On January 3, we exchanged a “see you real soon” with several thousand Disney Internships and Programs participants who completed their programs and returned home, and less than a week later, we welcomed our first batch of new arrivals from Australia and New Zealand. As the new year unfolds, we’ll welcome many more students from across the globe – to all who come to this happy place, welcome!

In addition to enhancements to the onboarding process (via DORMS), we’re also excited about some new technology that’s been added to our Housing bus stops/buses. Due to participant feedback and best practices gleaned from university settings, the Disney Housing Transportation team has rolled out a transportation app to ease the mass transportation experience.

Download TransLoc Transit VisualizationAvailable for free download, TransLoc Transit Visualization will allow users to monitor their bus in live-time, as it travels across property. Those curious about a specific route can receive a time estimate to help with planning, and late-breaking announcements concerning traffic or route delays will be just a tap away. Corresponding technology, including TV monitors, has been added to the bus stops too, as an added resource.

From an events perspective, two welcome parties are gracing the social calendar this January. First up, the Adventure is Out There Welcome Event (4-7 p.m., Jan. 16) will pay tribute to Disney/Pixar’s Up, and later in the month, the Go for the Gold Welcome Event (6-9 p.m., Jan. 30) will take flight just in time for the Winter Olympics. As is customary, each event will boast free food, character encounters and a DJ dance party.

So, let’s do this, shall we? Here’s to new friendships, adventure-filled comings-and-goings, and great expectations for the coming year!
