The summer heat is upon us, but that doesn’t mean we’re ready to end the party! Whether you’re making magic on the east coast at Walt Disney World® Resort or creating happiness out west at Disneyland® Resort, it’s always twice as fun being on a Disney Program during the summer. There’s so much excitement in store for you, and the season has barely started! To get you started on your summer adventures, we’ve put together a handy list of summer must-dos:
Explore your new “home” state
During your Disney Program, it’s all about balance. While your main focus is living, learning and earning, there’s still plenty of ways to enjoy your program and accomplish your goal of seeing other parts of your new “home”! On your days off, make plans with your friends to explore the city outside of the parks. Some places don’t even require you to go very far! For example, for our Walt Disney World Resort participants, you can explore Mickey’s Retreat, which is free to all cast members and hosts tons of outdoor activities. There are also plenty of local attractions and restaurants hidden within the Anaheim and Central-Florida areas– make sure to ask locals what their suggestions are. Additionally, since both states are located near coastlines, it’s the perfect time to head to the beach and soak up some summer sun! As you enjoy the waves and sink your feet in the sand, remember, don’t wait until it’s too late to hydrate and apply, apply, apply that sunscreen. Not feeling up to exploring? No worries. Spend the day at your complex and grill up some burgers, hot dogs or shish kebabs for the perfect summer activity!
Extra time to complete your Disney bucket list
If your program is over the summer, you can use this time to accomplish your Disney bucket list! (There’s no denying it, we all have one!) Now’s your chance to visit (or maybe even re-visit) your favorite characters, spend an entire day in one of the parks and catch the daytime shows and nighttime fireworks, or, if you’re on the east coast, take on the four parks, one day challenge! On the flip side, you can also take this time to focus on extending your time with the company and continuing the magic as a cast member. Summer is the perfect time to continue networking and improving your skills! Take advantage of educational offerings during your program; especially those that will help spruce up your networking skills and your résumé. As you network and build your relationships, don’t forget to meet with your leaders and make your goals clear – they are here to help you grow and succeed!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
We’re traveling to a galaxy far, far away with our Disneyland Resort participants! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge recently opened and it’s the perfect time to explore the planet of Batuu. Traverse the planet in style and stop by one of the many merchandise locations, take pictures with some familiar faces, grab a tall glass of blue (or green) milk and take flight in the “fastest hunk of junk” this side of the universe on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Just remember, don’t get caught by the Stormtroopers and may the force be with you! P.S. Florida-side participants will have a chance to experience this new land opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in late August 2019!
Epcot International Food & Wine Festival
Our Walt Disney World Resort participants can take a moment to wine and dine during the long-awaited Epcot International Food & Wine Festival! From Aug. 29-Nov. 23, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a variety of festival offerings. From live culinary demonstrations to cheese seminars and the ‘Eat to the Beat’ concert series – there’s so much to do! Don’t forget to grab a festival passport and mark all the locations you visit as you eat around the world and indulge in global cuisines.
East coast or west coast, we’re all part of the Disney family! No matter how you enjoy your Disney Program this summer, remember to capture the memories and take advantage of everything offered. Even though the program does not last forever, the magic and friendships made will always be with you!
