Celebration assumed a new name on May 7: Starlit Splash. As the sun set on Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, nearly 5,000 Disney Internships and Programs participants from the East Coast gathered together to dance, eat, swim and play.
For six hours, the water park was open exclusively for programs participants, with attractions like the Storm Slides, Shark Reef and wave pool offering unlimited access and ultimate enjoyment. Snacks and refreshments were scattered throughout the park, and frozen treat stands featuring novelties like Mickey Premium bars provided sweet sustenance all night long.
Adjacent to the wave pool, DJ Mike and DJ Victor hosted a high-energy dance party that was taken over by pirates when the clock struck 9 p.m. The barefoot crowd ‘wobbled’, jumped and sang-along for hours on the sandy shore, while Captain Jack Sparrow and his pirate crew gallivanted around, posing for pictures and providing colorful commentary.
Dinner was another high point – the all-you-care-to-enjoy spread featured fried chicken fritters, BBQ pulled pork, vegetarian three-bean chili and gluten-free beef steak. Attendees were also treated to giveaways in the form of glow-and-the-dark T-shirts, sunglasses, straw hats and pirate eye patches.
As a cap to the evening, fireworks were set off just before midnight. All-in-all, an unforgettable evening.
For those who joined in the festivities, we hope you had an phenomenal time! Your contributions are appreciated, admired and celebration-worthy – fondest wishes, as you continue your program journey and tackle what’s next…we’re forever-fans! If you’re joining us this summer or fall, anticipate a fun-filled semester. There’s lots to look forward to!
