Avast, me hearties! The sails were raised, the anchored was weighed and the crew reported for (party) duty at Starlit Splash 2016! Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park was reserved for College and International Program participants to slide, swim and dance their way through a pirate-themed night on May 4, and boy did they!
The night started out rainy, but when you are at a park called Typhoon Lagoon, you just kind of go with it. Participants braved and embraced the drizzly weather and didn’t let it stop them from having fun!
Thousands of participants came to this annual event and were give the special pirate treatment. Almost the whole water park was open for their enjoyment, including many slides, the lazy river and the wave pool. In addition, pirate grub (a dinner buffet) was offered throughout the night and included chips, chili, pulled pork, beef steak and much more. Also on deck were entertaining pirates who made appearances throughout the night and pillaged and plundered their way through the dance floor and other areas of the park.
A highlight of the night? Free Mickey Premium ice cream bars and sandwiches that you could eat to your heart’s content (and many did!).
Our buccaneer DJs and dance floor on the sand was what really got the party going, though. From the moment participants entered the park until the clock struck 1 a.m., the music was pumping and the floor packed! Almost every hour on the hour, cannon fire (or fireworks, if you prefer) shot off from the DJ stage ending with a spectacular show at midnight.
Yo ho, yo ho, it was a pirate’s life for Disney Housing and a program memory participants will never forget!
