As students from all 50 states and 60-plus countries relocate from here, there and everywhere, arrivals season is one of transition, self-discovery and exploration. Amidst housing welcome sessions, Disney Traditions, work location training and roommate bonding, themed welcome events are an anticipated part of the programs experience.

So far this semester, welcome events themed to Disney/Pixar’s Up and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics have unfolded, while affairs themed to Disney’s The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland are still to come.

On January 16, Wilderness Explorers at heart were delighted to kindle friendships with Up characters Russell, Dug and Carl Frederickson at the Adventure is Out There Welcome Event. Pizza and refreshments were served, and a DJ dance party took precedence at the Chatham Square field, proving that music really does make the people come together.

Then, on January 30, the excitement of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics ushered in the Go for the Gold Welcome Event. Uniquely-themed country backdrops were interspaced across the Chatham Square field, and free pizza was enjoyed in abundance. To top it all off, Disney character favorites, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Chip, Dale and Goofy donned Olympics-inspired costumes and posed for pictures. (Goofy’s mustache stole the show.)

Needless to say, free food, dancing and Disney character encounters is a winning combination. Best wishes to our newly-arriving participants – we’re thrilled that you’re here, and we can’t wait to hear your stories. Welcome to “our world”!
