Hidden in plain sight: Disney treasures you might’ve missed

Magic encompasses all of Walt Disney World® Resort. Every area from the parks, resorts and everything in between are thoroughly themed and filled with special sights, sounds and secrets! With all the décor and information surrounding you, it’s easy to miss a few hidden Easter eggs around the parks – even the ones right under your nose! Here are three things you should keep an eye out for during your next outing:

Magic Kingdom Park

Main Street, U.S.A., is reminiscent of Walt Disney’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Every detail from the train, buildings and overall atmosphere resonates his smalltown life and the things he held dear. But did you know the names on the facade windows are based on people who influenced Walt? Even though the businesses listed on the windows aren’t necessarily real, they are all an ode to someone important from Walt’s life. One of the most important and well-hidden windows can be found around the corner from Crystal Arts. If you glance up, the window has the words “Elias Disney, Contractor, Est. 1895,”. This is a tribute to Walt’s father, Elias Disney. Elias made a career out of being a contractor and builder. In 1895, when the Disney family lived in Chicago, Ill., Elias founded a contracting company, hence the mention on the window. These special windows along Main Street, U.S.A., can also be found at Disneyland® Resort in California. So, the next time you’re walking right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A., take a peek at each window and see what Disney names you can spot!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

It always seems as though our pal Mickey can be found anywhere. From character meetings to drawings, there’s not a single place at Walt Disney World Resort that is Mickey-free, and we wouldn’t want it any other way! There’s a special place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park where you can find Mickey, and he often plays tricks on guests and cast members alike. At Harambe Market, you can find our pal Mickey painted onto a wall waving with the words “Fichwa fellow!” Many believe he is simply acknowledging their presence and saying “hello,” but that’s far from the truth. Because Disney Imagineers never miss a detail, the word “fichwa” actually means “hidden” in Swahili, meaning that Mickey knows he is a “hidden fellow.” What a silly mouse!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Remember that famous line from “Indiana Jones”? I think it went something like “Ropes…why’d it have to be ropes?” Well, maybe it’s not exactly that, but this next hidden gem might just leave you saying that to yourself! The next time you take in the “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, take a few moments before or after the show to visit the archeological dig site just to the left of the entrance. There, you’ll see a sign that reads, “Warning! Do not pull rope.” If you’re feeling adventurous, we dare you to give the rope a pull! We won’t spoil the fun and tell you what happens next – you’ll have to be brave like Indy and discover it for yourself!

These are just a few of the many incredible hidden things you can find around Walt Disney World Resort. There are many more in each park and resort, and even a few at Disney Springs! No matter which Disney secret you find, there’s always one hidden around every corner. Keep your eyes peeled and your camera at the ready; you never know what you’re going to learn or discover!
