On April 16, 2019, East Coast Disney Programs participants hit the red carpet at Disney Springs’ House of Blues for the bi-annual Night of Stars Talent Competition! This star-studded event brings together a variety of talents and offers participants the chance to perform on a world-renowned stage, complete with professional lighting, sound and video production. This semester, over 150 acts auditioned with the hopes of being selected. Those who were chosen for the show surprised and delighted the audience the entire evening, and acts ranged from yo-yoing to artistic roller skating, guitar-playing, puppeteering and more! As if that wasn’t enough star power, the show was hosted by the 2019-2020 Walt Disney World Ambassador team.
Each act was judged by an esteemed panel of leaders from across The Walt Disney Company for stage presence, skill level and audience engagement. Awards were given in the categories of Best Overall, Best Specialty, Best Vocalist, Best Instrumental, Best Dance and Performers’ Choice, and the audience was also able to get in on the fun and make their pick for the Audience Favorite award.
Here’s a look at who took home top honors!
Best Overall: Nickyle E. – Puppeteering
There were lots of “awws!” from the crowd as Nickyle performed his adorable puppet routine (and with a song, no less!). Nickyle is from Chicago and he works as a character attendant.
Best Specialty: Brooke H. – Hula hooping
With hula hoops that glowed in the brilliant stage lights, Brooke’s routine to “High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco earned an incredible roar from the crowd. Brooke is originally from Texas and she works in a merchandise role here at Walt Disney World Resort.
Audience Favorite: Justin E. – Yo-Yo
Justin amazed the audience with a number of incredible yo-yo tricks to Marshmello’s “Happier”.
Performers’ Choice: Gerald M. – Vocal
With his infectious smile and beautiful voice, it’s no wonder that Gerald took home the recognition of his fellow performers with the Performers’ Choice award. Fun fact: Gerald’s birthday was also the day of the show!
Best Vocalist: Nadine K.
Nadine brought attitude and amazing vocal skills to the stage with her rendition of “When It All Falls Down”. She hails from Chicago and supports the Germany pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase.
Best Instrumental: Gerardo O. and Alex B.
Gerardo and Alex performed a moving rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel my Love” with a ukulele accompaniment. Both Gerardo and Alex are from Honduras.
Best Dance: Garrett C.
Garrett made it feel like Christmas in April with his jazz dance routine to “Man with a Bag”! Garrett works as a character attendant and is from Pennsylvania.
Congrats to all 22 acts who took the stage – you were incredible!
