If you’ve ever visited Disneyland® Resort, you’ve probably witnessed the magic of Disney come to life right in front of you. Maybe it was getting a picture with your favorite character from your childhood or seeing Tinker Bell fly above the castle. My favorite is becoming a pirate and setting sail with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew! Our Disneyland College Program participants play a huge role in making that magic come to life and creating unforgettable memories for our guests, but did you know that they also help us spread some of that pixie dust in our local community? Every month, we give them at least one opportunity to get involved with our Disney VoluntEARS program where they can spend some time making a difference for others in Southern California.
The Disney VoluntEARS program is a company-wide organization that has been helping others for decades, and they’re always looking for assistance. Volunteering your time to help others in need is not only an excellent résumé -enhancing experience, it’s very rewarding, too! Plus, becoming part of this Disney legacy is something you’ll talk about and cherish for the rest of your life.
Recently, we helped out with the 2017 Orange County Great Park Spooktacular Fun Days where we moved around a lot of pumpkins and created a pumpkin patch for the kids. It didn’t seem like much at the time, and we got a little dirty, but seeing the kids smile and have an incredible experience made our day. We also helped out at a local boutique where all of the proceeds went toward their philanthropic programs to support children.
Next week, we’re spending a day at a local food bank so we can help them sort and organize all of their donations. With the recent wildfires in Southern California, it’s so important for us to pitch in whenever we can. Even though all of our participants come from different parts of the world, it’s amazing to see them all come together to help others in need.
The busy holiday season is coming up and our Disney VoluntEARS are going to partner with the Salvation Army for the annual Toys for Tots initiative. I always enjoy seeing our participants help out to create some holiday magic for children; plus, all of our Disneyland guests can even help out! Just visit your local grocery store or mall within the next few months to pitch in. Remember, even the smallest donation can make a big difference.
If you’re joining us in January, make sure to let us know upon your arrival if you’re interested in becoming a Disney VoluntEAR. We love giving back to our community and it would be an honor to help you get involved, too.
