Sammie grew up in Florida and enjoyed visiting Walt Disney World® Resort every year with her family. She says, “Walt Disney World has always been my favorite place, and I always wanted to work for The Walt Disney Company.”

In her last semester of college at Florida Gulf Coast University, she applied for the Disney College Program in Orlando, Florida. Immediately after receiving her bachelor’s degree in theater with a minor in education, Sammie began working in merchandise at Storybook Circus in Magic Kingdom Park on the spring advantage program in 2015.

“I’ve just always known I wanted to make magic for children,” she says. “Whether that be teaching, trading pins or making their vacation amazing – there’s no better way of making magic than working at the most magical place on earth.”

She said she and her former roommates at Vista Way, one of four Disney housing complexes, are still close friends. In fact, they meet once a year at Walt Disney World Resort for a reunion.

Before her College Program, Sammie spent several years teaching dance and theater at a non-profit summer arts camp. This experience later helped her land jobs as a preschool teacher and resident assistant at a boarding school.

She had her heart set on teaching for Disney English, however, and made sure to do her research before applying. She interviewed via video conference and accepted a 13-month teaching assignment in Beijing!

What she liked best about living in China “was getting to experience a new place, new cultures and seeing sights that some will live without seeing.”

Sammie fondly remembers a day of exploring with other Disney English foreign trainers: “We went to the Forbidden City in Beijing, and I was in awe of everything. We climbed to the top of a temple and once we reached the peak, we looked down and all agreed that the experience made all the anxiety, worry and any fear we had of leaving our homes worth it.”

While she was in China, she posted regularly to her Instagram account. She said her photos of her many adventures have led to many “amazing reactions” from people all over the world who want to learn more about Disney English.

When Sammie completed her Disney English assignment, she returned to Orlando where she works as a trainer in merchandise at Disney Springs. “I’m looking forward to the next steps in my Disney career!” she said.
