Participants count down the months, weeks, even hours until they arrive and become cast members! Once you’ve arrived it’s hard to begin to explain the amazing emotional rollercoaster that is your first week on your program. But, just like Quasimodo said in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “today is a good day to try.” So here are some moments from Disney films that we think sum up your first week on the program:
Arriving at Housing for check-in:
“I’ve been waiting for this my whole life!” – Mike Wazowski from “Monsters University”
The anticipation builds up as soon as you receive your congratulations email. No matter how long you’ve been dreaming of the program, the moment you step into your housing complex can feel like your whole life has led up to this point.
Receiving your keys:
“Booyah!” – Kuzco from “The Emperor’s New Groove”
You’re in; it’s official! Your program is about living, learning and earning, and you’ve just been introduced to the first.
Meeting your roommates for the first time:
“I haven’t seen this much love in a room since Narcissus discovered himself.” – Cupid from “Hercules”
Whether you’re the only new arrival in your apartment or there’s five other participants also navigating housing for the first time, you’ll start to see what we mean by Disney family. Living with strangers will lead to some ups and downs, but no matter what, you know that you and your roommates all share a common bond and understanding because of Disney and the program.
Navigating the bus route:
“Thanks for the adventure — now go find a new one.”- Ellie from “Up”
You’re A, B, Cs start to take on a new meaning when you begin using the provided transportation. It might take some time and a few errors until you figure out the different routes, but when it gets tough remind yourself how lucky you are to be in an internship that provides transportation to and from work every day!
Driving under the Walt Disney World sign:
“Would you like to stay…forever?” – Grandmother Fa from “Mulan”
You’ve now left the real world, and entered a magical place! It’s hard to imagine ever leaving.
Seeing the castle for the first time:
“This is the perfect time to be hysterical”
“Should we be hysterical?” – Ham and Rex from “Toy Story 3”
This one needs no explanation, but let’s just say the pictures can’t compare to seeing Cinderella Castle in person. As a side note, we love to see the emotions flow the first time you see the castle, but please try not to pull a Rex.
Attending Disney Traditions:
“All it takes is faith, trust and a little pixie dust!” – Peter Pan from “Peter Pan”
At Disney Traditions, you’re given a first glimpse into the type of pixie dust that keeps our parks and resorts running. You’ll also learn about important company policies and goals that will help guide you to success as long as you put your faith and trust in the core of this company.
Getting your name tag:
“Not all treasure’s silver and gold, mate.” –Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”
Amid all the Disney Parks merchandise you’ll acquire, your name tag will stand out as one of the pivotal keepsakes of your program.
First day of training:
“The only way to get what you want in this world is through hard work.” – Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog”
Making magic for our guests is no easy task! As you begin training in your location, you’ll witness the hard work necessary to keeping Walt Disney’s legacy alive.
Finishing your first shift:
“The wilderness isn’t quite what I expected. It’s wild.” – Russell from “Up”
It can take the courage, determination and positivity of a wilderness explorer to thrive as a cast member. The sheer amount of guests could overwhelm any new hire. However, if you stick to your training and use your resources you’ll find yourself becoming a master of your role!
