Hearts are a-glow, as the season of giving continues across the globe, and particularly on the East Coast, where Disney Internships & Programs participants just wrapped up their annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. Supporting the toy drive is a tradition across the Walt Disney World Resort, and this year, some new opportunities to exercise generosity were introduced into the fold.
In conjunction with the Winter Diversity Event: Thanksgiving and the 2012 Disney Internships and Programs Winter Formal: Imagination Celebration, donation stations were set up, to make the act of giving easy and fun for participants. A wide variety of age-appropriate toys were gifted, and board games, Barbies and Perry the platypus-themed toys were especially popular.
In addition to the stationary donation stations, the Disney Housing Operations team also hosted a giving opportunity on the “H” bus route, which includes stops at Walmart and Publix. As part of the “on the go” efforts, voluntEARS (dressed as Santa’s elves) transformed the bus into a winter wonderland, complete with snowflake-covered windows, bows, décor and of course, a festive drive time soundtrack. To top it all off, participants were invited to purchase a toy for a child in need, while they were grocery shopping.
At final count, more than 500 toys were donated – a record, for Disney Internships & Programs participants. Surely, each gift will spark a smile and help to make this holiday season extra special for a Central Florida family. A heartfelt thanks to so many of you, who contributed to the drive’s success!
