Whether you’re already enjoying your program, anxiously awaiting your arrival date, or considering applying for a Disney Program in the future, we’re sure your thoughts are filled with pixie dust! With amazing opportunities ahead, we don’t blame you! However, we want to add one more ingredient to the mix: safety.

When you work for The Walt Disney Company you are reminded daily about the value of safety and truly begin to live the motto “safety begins with me” by making safe choices a priority on and off the clock! While it’s always important to keep safety at the forefront of your mind, it’s especially true for those participating in a program on the East Coast during hurricane season, which runs from the beginning of June until the end of November. The best way to stay safe during hurricane season is to be prepared, so we’ve compiled a short list of suggestions to help you get ready in the event of a storm.

Pack your Mary Poppins bag
One of the most important ways to prepare for a hurricane is to gather essential supplies and make your own emergency kit. Make sure you include water, nonperishable food, a flashlight, a first aid kit and other items you may need in the event of a power or water outage. Make sure you charge all electronics and portable batteries, as well.

Contact your sidekick
Stay in contact with someone who does not live in the area affected by the storm. It’s important to let someone know your plans before, during and after a hurricane.

Wait for the signal
If any severe weather does occur, you’ll receive targeted messaging about what to expect from work and housing locations, so it’s important to make sure you’re checking your email consistently. Your work location will provide contact information to keep you up to date on any operational changes. You will also be notified by Disney Housing about any transportation changes or Service Center closures due to a storm.

In addition to these few suggestions, make sure you do your own research about to best prepare in the event of a storm. It takes everyone’s participation to create a safe environment for guests and cast members alike!
