Last month, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge held a graduation ceremony for the participants in the Sub-Saharan Africa Cultural Representative Program. The participants adorned their green robes hailing from several regions including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Fourteen Cultural Representatives walked across the Jambo House lobby, and were greeted by Kent Mitchell, General Manager of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and their leaders for a diploma of completion. Drums played celebrating their moment and to cap it off, everyone posed for photos.
During the graduation, the graduating and current participants gathered around their country’s flag and sang their national anthem. Kent also reminded them about how much fellow cast members and guests at the resort learned from them and remarked, “Once you set foot in Walt Disney World, you’ll never shake the pixie dust off your boot.”
Fellow cast attended the celebration and watched with pride – some even shed some tears, feeling happy and sad because their program has come to an end.
As this program draws to an end, new Cultural Representative Program participants will arrive, and the recruitment process continues! This October, recruiter, Sue, will be heading back to Africa to recruit for the program. Sue will be visiting South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Congratulations once again to our recent graduates! We wish you all the best in your future!
