A taste of home: Serving up magic at Le Cellier Steakhouse

Le Cellier Steakhouse, a fine dining restaurant within the Canada Pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase, is famed for its authentic Canadian steaks and seafood. We were lucky enough to be able to speak with Lauren, one of the Cultural Representatives working as a server there, to understand what the program is like. Read on to discover how she creates Disney magic every day for her guests.

What was the application process like?
I was looking for jobs and I discovered that Walt Disney World had a couple of opportunities for internationals. I applied online, and a couple of weeks later I heard back saying that I had an interview. I flew out to Vancouver from my hometown into Calgary, and there I interviewed in-person. After that I had to wait a couple of more weeks, and then I found out that I had been accepted to the program.

I was actually visiting family in Disneyland Paris when I got an email that I had been accepted. It was extremely exciting – I couldn’t help jumping for joy! It was one of the most exciting moments to be able to share with my family in the place I love most.

And you successfully completed that program, so this is your second program, correct?
Yes! It was such a great experience the first time around. I was able to meet so many people from all over the world and gain invaluable experience at a Fortune 500 company.

Tell us about your favorite moment as a Canada Cultural Representative.
I love being able to talk about Canada and share different experiences. One of our steaks on our menu is from my hometown, so I have a special connection there.

I also love having the opportunity to spread magic and joy to families. It’s something that you can’t really experience in any other job. Even just simply by giving a Mickey Mouse sticker to someone, you can see the light and joy in someone’s eye. I am so honored to be able to do that every single day.

What is living in Disney housing like?
I am able to live and work with people from all over the world. I share an apartment with seven other people, from all different countries and all different continents. It’s an incredible and invaluable experience.

What are your favorite Disney perks?
It’s always been a dream of mine to work for Disney. Seeing that dream become a reality was extremely exciting for me. The perks of working for the company include complimentary park access and amazing discounts at parks and resorts all over the world. You really can’t find a job better than this.

What comes next for you?
I’ve applied to business school and am excited to study restaurant management. In the meantime, I would love to have the opportunity to travel to the Disney parks around the world. I am a huge Disney fanatic, so being able to go to all the different places in the world would be amazing. I only have Shanghai left on the bucket list, and I am very excited to achieve that goal.

Thank you Lauren, and best of luck!
