Applications for domestic fall programs have been posted and before you know it, you may find a “Congratulations!” email waiting in your inbox. The excitement of finding out you are accepted can be incredible, but what do you do while you’re waiting for that magical day when you finally get to check in for your Disney Program? Keep reading for five things to do to prepare while counting down the days.
- Have a Disney movie marathon.
So many attractions at Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort are inspired by Disney films, so why not prepare yourself with a Disney movie marathon? With Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure Park slated to open this year, Pixar films such as “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles” should definitely be on your list!
- Work with your college or university to make your program a success.
Before leaving for your program, schedule some time with an academic advisor or internship director at your college or university. Make sure your school knows that you’ll be away for the semester and also see if you can receive college credit for your program. Whether you’re able to get internship credit for work experience or transfer your Disney Education courses as independent study, it’s worthwhile to ask what options you may have.
- Make a list of must-do experiences.
There is no shortage of things to do at Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort, but the idea of doing it all can be overwhelming! While you’re scanning the resorts’ websites, start writing down the experiences that interest you. Whether it includes having afternoon tea at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and meeting Tinker Bell, or joining Chip ‘n Dale for breakfast at Storytellers Café and riding the Matterhorn Bobsleds 10 times, make a note of those experiences so you don’t miss out and find yourself saying, “If only…”
- Start on your packing list.
All apartments in Disney Housing are fully furnished with necessities, but clothing and personal items are something you’ll need to pack. Pay extra attention to your essentials over the span of a couple of days and start there. Often, if we blindly make a packing list or rely on one online, we over-pack. During your program, you’ll be wearing your costume a lot, but be sure to have both casual and business casual clothes on hand. Don’t forget to include these seven things that no one will tell you to bring for your Disney Program.
- Prepare your paperwork.
This isn’t always the most fun part of counting down the days until your program, but it sure is important! Once you’re accepted into the program, keep an eye on your email inbox. You’ll want to make sure you don’t miss any important requests for required information. Once you start printing things, prepare a folder so you can keep everything together in one place. Be sure you have your forms of identifications on-hand, too. You don’t want to find out the day before you leave that your passport is expired or that you lost your social security card in a drawer!
